Welcome Letter to Students
Thank you for considering the Choice Pass for your well-being!  We want you to sign-up – even if you don’t actually get a ski pass or membership.  Why?  It’s more about a commitment to yourself, building confidence in your decisions, and experiencing a feeling of success.

Think about who you look up to. Ask yourself, who are these people?  What makes them special?  The most successful people in life do what they say they will do.  What do you want to do?  What special qualities do you want to bring out in yourself?

The Choice Pass is a chance for you to make a commitment that could enhance your best qualities and have a positive influence on the rest of your life.  Yes, the Choice Pass gives you excellent deals on passes at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Gunnison Community Center, and businesses valley-wide.  But it also gives you an opportunity to prove to yourself that you are capable of sticking to your word and choosing an even healthier lifestyle.  It’s a chance to build confidence in your decisions and make healthy choices all year long.

You’ll find support in the Choice Pass community through organized activities offered throughout the year.  Your entire community is behind you as a Choice Pass holder.  All you have to do is make the commitment to yourself and you will experience an additional feeling of success.

You’ll work with your parent/parents to complete the Choice Pass Pledge, a commitment to remain alcohol and drug free throughout the school year.  It is important for you to talk about your commitment and feel supported.  Think of it this way, you are making a Pledge to yourself and to those who care for you.

What if you break your Pledge?  You will have your Choice Pass taken away.  However, we’ll give you a chance to earn it back after addressing the conditions you outline in your Pledge.  Remember, we want you to be successful!

Ready to commit? Here’s what you need to do.  You and your parent or guardian must attend the Choice Pass Sign-Up night and complete the online requirements. The button below will conect you to our county website where you can follow these next steps:

More About Choice Pass!!

Our Story

What We Do
In 2011, with Crested Butte Mountain Resorts’ partnership, we offered the Choice Pass to 56 freshman students.
In 2012, the Choice Pass was opened to all 6th through 12th grade students in Gunnison and Crested Butte.  Over 360 students enrolled in the Choice Pass Program.
In 2015-2016, the Choice Pass has over 650 students enrolled valley wide and is one of the largest youth programs in Gunnison County. This program has received positive feedback as a tool for reducing drug use among youth and encouraging healthy choices.

The Choice Pass is a program designed with one thing in mind -- engage students in making healthy choices.
The Choice Pass is offered annually to students in 6th through 12th grade. Once enrolled, students can enjoy discounted ski passes, recreation center passes, skill-based programs, join the Choice Pass activity committee, and be educated on healthy choices.
The Choice Pass is a tool for parents to use when encouraging their youth to live a healthy and substance free lifestyle.

How to Enroll

How it Works
GCSAPP coordinates the Choice Pass which makes it easy on businesses.  Students can purchase a $5 ID card or choose to purchase a ski pass. They use their pass or ID card to receive perks at local businesses. If a student does not uphold their pledge, GCSAPP works with the student and family to assess the situation and provide resources. If a student breaks a pledge, they lose their Choice Pass for 1-3 weeks and can then initiate steps to earn it back. GCSAPP fully supports students earning their pass back after making a poor choice. We believe that in life it is important to learn from our mistakes in order to make better choices in the future. Our program focuses on student, parent and community accountability – one of the best skills a person can have and model in life.

Sign-Up Nights happen annually in Crested Butte, Gunnison, and Lake City each September.    The student and a parent MUST attend to enroll in the program! Look for dates and locations in local papers.
